Jared Leto's Joker looks like he hangs out at Hot Topic

Trending on Facebook

More popular and trending stories

We now have our first good look at Jared Leto as the Joker for the upcoming "Suicide Squad" film, and even for the "Clown Prince of Crime," it's out there.

The film's director David Ayer revealed the image on Twitter, and it kinda looks like he is toeing the line between psychotic serial killer and the frontman for a death metal band.

And many people don't seem too keen on it, with most of the criticism centering on all those tattoos.

If scrawling a character's iconic slogan all over his body isn't a bit much, literally putting a label that says "Damaged" on his forehead certainly is. I think we get it — the guy's a psycho.

So, first impressions to the image make it seem like the creative team behind "Suicide Squad" is trying a bit too hard to reinvent the character. But it's not hard to see why they could be overcompensating.

The Joker already has had plenty of on-screen adaptions, including Jack Nicholson's take on the villain in Tim Burton's 1989 "Batman" film. It will also be pretty hard for "Suicide Squad" to escape the shadow of Heath Ledger's Oscar-winning performance in "The Dark Knight" from 2008.

We should also keep in mind that this is only our first glimpse of the character. One Twitter pic doesn't really give us enough to make a final judgment on Leto's Joker.

Plus, it's not like anyone predicted that Ledger's portrayal of the Joker would turn out the way it did, so who knows what Leto could do with it.

Regardless, "Suicide Squad" looks like it might be a pretty unique take on the super-hero genre.

Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Common are to star alongside Leto as super-villains doing work for the U.S. government in exchange for commuted prison sentences. That film is set to hit theaters in 2016.

Comic-Con: 'Batman v Superman' teased, Wonder Woman revealed

We've still got at least two years to wait before "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" hits the big screen, but DC fans were counting on Warner Bros. to bring something from the film to this year's San Diego Comic-Con. And the company did not disappoint.

The film's director, Zack Snyder, made an unsurprising surprise appearance at the Warner Bros. panel in Hall H Saturday, and he brought along a few friends: Henry Cavill, a.k.a. Superman, Ben Affleck — that's the new Batman — and Gal Gadot who will be playing Wonder Woman. (Via Getty Images)

The Big Three didn't stick around long enough to take any questions or make any remarks about the film, but panel moderator Chris Hardwick did manage to snap this selfie with the power trio before they got away.

Snyder also brought something else exciting to the show: the first footage from "Batman v Superman." Which we don't have. Nobody has it. It's not out there. We checked.

Warner Bros. is being somewhat tight-fisted with the teaser, and all the audience has leaked so far is a handful of grainy screenshots. Very disappointing. (Via Twitter / @321_js,RyanHigginsRyan)

Without actual footage to show, some outlets covered the big reveal with more ... creative means.

"Gotham city at night. Pouring rain. Thunder and lightning and war-like drum music. ... Then the sky reveals Superman floating in the Bat-Signal, what?!" (Via IGN)

The 20 seconds of footage have received several dramatic retellings online. The teaser apparently featured a dramatic staredown between Superman and Batman. Some important takeaways: Batman looked to be wearing an armored suit, and both of the heroes apparently had glowing eyes. (Via /Film,BuzzfeedScreenCrush)

But Warner Bros. final Comic-Con gift to superhero fans was a bit more substantial: the world's first look at Snyder's take on Wonder Woman, who has a cameo role in the upcoming movie.

Wonder Woman is the last of the film's heroes to be unveiled, and a writer for Cinema Blend quips the cast of the movie's looking a little under-saturated. "At this rate, The Flash will look like a handful of Martian dirt."

Forbes writer notes this will be Wonder Woman's cinematic debut, and consequently her role could make or break the film. "If Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman isn't used well or doesn't come off well, Zack Snyder will be forever known as the guy who screwed up Wonder Woman and that will be the film's enduring legacy."

"Batman v Superman" kind of overwhelmed the Warner Bros. panel, but the company did also show off footage from the upcoming films "Jupiter Ascending" and "Mad Max," as well as their final Tolkien-based movie "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies."

About SINBAD:Actor and Comedian Sinbad arrived on the comedy scene with a “ hit’em in the face” style of comedy that has kept audiences laughing in the aisles for over the past two decades.  He freely admits that he doesn’t knows any jokes, except for the ones that his dad told him “back in the day”.  Sinbad tells stories, and boy does he tell stories!  The basis of his humor comes from everyone he’s meets, everything he’s seen, and everything he’s done.

Ranked by Comedy Central as one of the top 100 standup comedians of all time, Sinbad has built a loyal following by taking audiences’ painful trials or embarassing tribulations of day-by-day life, throwing them back in their faces, and causing an uproar of comedic hysteria.  He can also make it sound profound without being profane.  Not that he’s any kind of choirboy, but by being the son of a preacher man he decided to keep his comedy clean after his father attended one of his early performances. Up to that time he had been what he describes himself as ”semi-dirty”.  Sinbad says that he learned that night that “funny is funny”, and that masters of dirty comedy such as Redd Foxx, Richard Pryor and Lenny Bruce could all work clean without losing a step.

Sinbad is internationally known for his starring appearances in hit movies like “Jingle All the Way,” playing opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger; “Houseguest” co-starring the late Phil Hartman, and let’s not forget his film debut “Necessary Roughness”, where he did none of his own stunts!  He has starred in the television sitcom “A Different World” as well as his own series, “The Sinbad Show”.  Entertainment mogul Quincy Jones sought out Sinbad to host UPN’s first late night talk show, “Vibe”.  He  also recently appeared as a recurring guest star on the Showtime Original Series “Resurrection Blvd.”  Sinbad has even written a self-help book entitled “Sinbad’s Guide to Life: (Because I Know Everything)”.  Sinbad has drawn legions of fans from his HBO highly-rated comedy specials; “Brain Damaged” (1991), “Afros & Bellbottoms” (1993),  “Son of a Preacher Man” (1996), and “Nuthin But The Funk” (1998).  His annual HBO music concert series (Oh! You didn’t know he was musical?) “Sinbad’s 70’s Soul Music Festival” received the prestigious NAACP Image Award consecutively for two years as the “Most Outstanding Variety Series/Special”.

A one-time basketball standout for the University of Denver, Sinbad agrees that everything he needed to know for comedy, he learned from playing basketball.  There are a number of things comedy and basketball have in common.  One of the most important to Sinbad is “the competitive aspect that teaches you to never give up”.  Now there is one part of Sinbad’s life that has been a well kept secret…he is a closet nerd.  This comes in handy as a Master of Technology during private corporate engagements for clients such as: Intel Corporation, Breakaway Technologies, Apple and Microsoft as well as many others.  As an intermediary to community focused technology solutions, Sinbad believes no one should be left behind in training and education. He has served as a spokesperson for the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering (NACME) encouraging minorities to pursue studies in science, math and engineering. In honor of his parents Donald & Louise Adkins, Sinbad has established an academic scholarship in their name at the esteemed Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia.  Showing his appreciation for our armed servicemen, the comedian/actor has participated on USO tours and performed at the USO of Hampton Roads 2006 Patriotic Festival.

Sinbad has appeared on the FX Television series “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.”  Also, his long awaited stand-up special aired on Comedy Central this past February.  Most recently, Sinbad was seen in the third season of NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice.
