Bike to Work Kick-Off

May 11-15 is Bike to Work week nationally and in Tulsa we have organized fun events to encourage Tulsans to participate. It doesn't matter if you happen to be a seasoned
cyclist or a novice there is something for everyone! Commuter Trains will be lead by experienced cyclists for novices to jump on and find the safest routes. Businesses can join and be a part of the Corporate Challenge. Awesome events will book end the week starting with a kick-off event Saturday, May 9th and ending with a Bike Crawl event Friday, May 15 (bike to work day) that will recognize the winners of the corporate challenge as well as individual competitions.

New and experienced bike commuters are encouraged to attend the Bike 2 Work Kick-off event and learn more about the subsequent Bike to Work week events, such as Commuter Trains, Corporate Challenge, and end of the week Awards Event. The Kick-off event will include a Bicycle Safety course from the Tulsa Hub, meet and greet of the Commuter Train leaders, information about the Corporate Challenge, awesome music from a local radio station, and free T-shirt's and other free giveaways. Come out and enjoy the festivities or just enjoy a nice bike ride with friends on May 9th, from 3pm - 5pm in Veterans Park.

Bike to Work events are held each year during Ozone Alert Season to promote biking to work as an alternative to driving. Biking to work just once a week can save a commuter approximately $100 through the Ozone Alert season (based on a 10 mile/day commute over 5 months). Commuting by bicycle can also improve personal health, reduce emissions that affect air quality, and decrease traffic congestion.

More information on Bike to Work is available on the Transportation Resource Center website – tulsatrc.org/biketowork, there the link to sign up for the Corporate Challenge is available as well as a map for the Commuter Train routes. Users can also go to the website and find free showers during BTW week, bike commuting tips, trails and bikeways near them, and other information on travel alternatives.

Staff with Tom’s Bicycles located in downtown are available to help commuters plan a personalized route to work if there is not a convenient Commuter Train near them and offer other bike commuter tips. Commuters are encouraged to call
