Tulsa County man reportedly shoots family Bible out of anger, wife responds with more gunfire

TULSA COUNTY, Okla. —

Quick facts:

  • A Tulsa County couple was arrested Friday night after a few drinks reportedly turned to anger, guns and bullets into a religious text.
  • According to a deputy's report, Patrick Starkey had been drinking with his wife, Shelly Starkey, in their Tulsa County home near East 76th Street North and Peoria when he became angry.
  • In his anger, he allegedly pulled out a pistol and shot the family Bible multiple times in the middle of their living room.
  • The report goes onto say that Shelly Starkey then pulled out a .45 Colt Derringer pistol, took the gun outside and fired into the air and ground in response.
  • Patrick Starkey reportedly said that he'd had at least 12 beers before shooting the Bible. 
  • Police say he had extremely slurred speech, watery bloodshot eyes and a strong alcohol odor when they arrived.
  • They were both arrested for reckless handling of a firearm and use of a firearm while intoxicated.
