In its second year, not only has a new park joined GLOW, but now, each destination’s event will have a deeper meaning as each stop on the tour will benefit a chosen charity. The John 3:16 Mission is the one organization represented at all four stops where citizens are encouraged to donate new or gently used blankets.

The progressive lighting tour will begin at 4:30 pm at The John Hope Franklin Reconciliation Park, 321 N. Detroit, with “HOPE Floats for the Holidays.” The event features music and a balloon launch where participants can send their hopes for the world, and our city, soaring into the skies (weather permitting). The lighting will take place at 5:40 pm. The park’s partner for the event is The Woody Guthrie Center. For more information and a full schedule of activities,

The second stop on the tour is the Guthrie Green. The lighting of the Green will take place at 6:00 pm. The annual “Glow on the Green 2014” kicks off an evening of entertainment, holiday shopping, delicious food and festivities earlier that day at 3:00 pm. In addition to blankets for John 3:16, the Green will also host a diaper drive benefitting Emergency Infant Services. For more information and a full schedule of activities, visit

The third stop is Arvest Winterfest, presented with Fabwell and located at 200 S. Denver, for the official lighting of Oklahoma’s largest Christmas tree at 6:20 pm. From Noon-10 pm, Arvest Winterfest will be open for ice skating, horse and carriage rides, holiday concessions and live entertainment. In addition to blankets for John 3:16.
Winterfest will collect donations for Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma and continue the giving all season with “Warmth Wednesdays” benefitting the Day Center. A full Winterfest calendar with prices and daily hours of operation is available online at

The Deco District’s “S’mores on Boston” will conclude the tour. At 6:40 pm, Boston Avenue will light up the downtown area as the finale to the progressive lighting event. Between 5:00 pm and 9:00 pm, the event boasts FREE s’mores for kids, a holiday choir and several restaurants all located on Boston Avenue between 5th and 6th Streets. For more information, visit

The FREE downtown Trolley will be available to make stops at each location throughout the progressive lighting tour.
