New Tulsa Tech program trains jail officers

Swearing-in ceremony held today for first class

The Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office says a new training program at Tulsa Tech should help them with their shortage of jail guards.

Deputy Justin Green says it’s a tough job to fill, in part because it can be difficult work, but also because many guards often have the goal to move on to the patrol side at the Sheriff’s Office.

He says 12 recruits have gone through their first class at Tulsa Tech.

“Our trainers come out and teach what we teach at academy here. That way, they’re already prepared and ready to hit the ground running when they graduate,” Green said.

He said the class that finished their training Tuesday will be at the jail and working as soon as next week.
