Tulsa police identify burglary suspect in fatal officer-involved shooting

TPD says the man fired a sawed-off shotgun at officers during a brief foot pursuit not far from the University of Tulsa campus

TULSA — Update 11:21 a.m. on 03/03/2023: Tulsa police have identified the suspect in Wednesday’s fatal officer-involved shooting near the University of Tulsa.

TPD says 32-year-old Stormy Fuller was shot and killed by police after he fired a sawed-off shotgun at officers.

Police say the woman involved was questioned and released. Her name is not being released because she was not arrested.

Tulsa police officers responding to a second-degree burglary call early Wednesday afternoon came under fire from a suspect armed with a sawed-off shotgun, according to TPD Capt. Richard Meulenberg.

The incident began shortly before 12:30 Wednesday afternoon in the 2800 block of East 2nd Place, not far from I-244 and College Avenue.

A homeowner had called police after seeing two people inside his home on his home security camera.

When officers arrived, Meulenberg said they spotted a man and a woman inside the residence, the man armed with a sawed-off shotgun.

The woman initially appeared to comply with orders from the officers, but the man pointed the shotgun at them and fired at least one shell at them as he tried to run away.

He made it to a backyard about a block north, on 2nd Street, and either pointed or fired the shotgun a second time.

That’s when officers opened fire, killing him.

The woman managed to slip away during that brief pursuit, but Meulenberg confirmed late Wednesday afternoon that she had been located and arrested.

No police officers were injured during the incident.

Two officers have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the investigation.

No names have yet been released.
