Man arrested in connection to multiple burglaries in midtown Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa Police Department said they arrested a man who is suspected to be connected to a string of burglaries in midtown Tulsa.

Officers said they first responded to an attempted burglary near South Peoria and East 41st Street on Wednesday where they found a nail salon with a broken door, but a second call came in about a second burglary just a few blocks down the road near South Peoria and East 35th.

TPD said they then surrounded the immediate area and were surveilling the scene when another call came in about a burglary in progress at South Peoria and East 15th.

When officers arrived, they said they saw a white male running across Peoria and get into a silver car heading south on Peoria.

Officers followed the vehicle and pulled it over near South Peoria and East 21st.

Captain Richard Meulenberg said the passenger of the vehicle, Robert Dennis, looked apparently sweaty and told officers he was on his way to work. The driver told police he was just told to meet Dennis to give him a ride to work.

Dennis matched the description of the suspect in the video from one of the burglaries and officers also matched his description of another burglary from earlier in the night, TPD said.

Officers said they found the exact amount of money stolen in one of the burglaries in Dennis’s back pocket and found a very large prybar in the vehicle that matched what was used in the burglary video.

An employee of one of the burglarized businesses, Shades of Brown, said it feels really violating, after she came into work one morning to find out the coffee shop had been robbed.

“It was so shocking,” the employee said. “How does somebody do that much work...stealing?”

Dennis was taken into custody and later found to be linked to multiple recent burglaries, according to TPD.

“We think he started his recent rash of burglaries as far back of the end of October until he got caught recently, but based on the mugshot you see here, if you’ve seen him in your neighborhood or think he’s connected to a crime in your neighborhood please give us a call so we can do some follow up on that,” Meulenberg said.

Meulenberg said Dennis has been charged with 17 counts of burglary, but they are still currently investigating.
