TFD responds to east Tulsa apartment fire

TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa Fire Department (TFD) responded to an apartment fire near E. 51st Street and S. Memorial Drive on Wednesday night.

District Chief Jose Ariza said they were first alerted to the fire around 10:00 p.m.

“So tonight about 10 o’clock, Tulsa Fire Department was alerted to smoke coming from an apartment. Our first company on scene reported heavy smoke, they actually went inside to put the fire out, once they went inside they realized that we had a lot of fire in the attic. So we coordinated our fire groups, went inside, got up in the attic and put the fire out,” he said.”

Ariza said about seven units were on scene fighting the fire.

He also said no civilians or fire fighters were injured. And while some families were displaced, Ariza said TFD is working with Red Cross get those families accommodations.

“The apartment building was a fourplex, so we had some families displaced, thankfully we’re working with Red Cross to get them somewhere to stay warm tonight,” he said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
