DETROIT — Police in Detroit said a 3-year-old boy has been found dead in a freezer.
The boy, whose identity has not been released, was found inside a freezer after they were called to perform a welfare check at a home on the city’s west side, WJBK reported.
During a news conference Friday afternoon, officials said that when officers spoke to the people at the home, they tried to turn the officers away. Police then called a supervisor and Child Protective Services, WJBK reported.
The child’s decomposing body was then found in the freezer in the home’s basement.
The cause of death was not released, but a woman, who is said to be the child’s 30-year-old mother, has been taken into custody, WDIV reported.
There were five other children in the home at the time of her arrest. They were taken to an area hospital to be checked out before being interviewed by police.
