Coronavirus: Days after photo of packed hallways, Georgia school reports 9 cases

PAULDING COUNTY, Ga. — Days after a photo of a packed Georgia high school hallway was widely viewed, parents learned there are nine confirmed coronavirus cases at the school.

North Paulding High School Principal Gabe Carmona wrote in a letter to parents that three staff and six students had tested positive for the coronavirus, WSB-TV reported.

“Our custodial staff continues to thoroughly clean and disinfect the school building daily, and especially affected areas,” Carmona wrote. “It is my intention to regularly notify the NPHS community of these cases in the interest of transparency and so that we, as a community, can be aware of any trends that arise and respond accordingly.”

It is unclear if students who were exposed will have to be quarantined. There was no notice that the classrooms would be closed.

Paulding County Schools has reported 53 cases since July 1, WSB-TV reported. Of those cases, 23 were students at North Paulding High School. Students returned to school Aug. 3.
