Elephant dives head first into remodeled swimming pool at Kansas City Zoo

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Zoo showed off the remodeled pool designed for some of its largest residents: African elephants.

Tamani, a 14-year-old bull elephant, took no time before diving in head first, WDAF reported.

“We had to redo the pool to try to make it a little more elephant friendly,” zoo director Randy Wistoff said.

Tamani came to the zoo five years ago. Last year, Tamani escaped from his enclosure to a nearby exhibit causing a brief code red incident before he was corralled and returned to his pen, the Kansas City Star reported.

The zoo posted video Thursday of Tamani snacking while lounging in the pool.

“He’s like any teenage boy,” Wisthoff said. “He’ll work for food.”
