LAREDO, Texas — An officer with the Laredo Police Department in Texas suffered minor injuries after a suspected drunk driver plowed into his patrol vehicle from behind on Saturday.

The patrolling officer was reportedly stopped at a red light when a brown Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Earles whom officers said displayed signs of intoxication, crashed into him at around 11:30 a.m., KGNS reported.

The police cruiser sustained “major damages to the rear” in the crash, and Earles claimed to have not been drinking, but the arresting officer reported a strong odor of alcohol on her breath. Meanwhile, court documents indicate Earles was “verbally combative” and “insulting” toward officers throughout the incident, the Laredo Morning Times reported.

According to court documents, Earles was previously arrested for driving while intoxicated on Oct. 11, 2018, but her case was dismissed on Jan. 6, 2020, after she completed a pretrial diversion program, the newspaper reported.
