The pit bull was sent to OAA in October after an investigation stemmed from video footage of her abuse. A partnership between Tulsa Police and Tulsa Animal Welfare lead to the arrest of two men after a Ring video showed the dog severely beaten and stomped on.

During an interview with FOX23 News, Executive Director of OAA, Erin Shackelford, said, “It’s such an amazing story in that she’s been able to survive and a lot of people have reached out to want to help her.”

Shackelford said OAA announced Sunny would be able to ease her nerves and begin a new chapter while in care at a temporary foster home.

Shackelford said they’re thrilled Sunny will have an opportunity to find a second chance at a better life, but also said Oklahoma has a severe pet overpopulation and not every animal has a positive outcome like this one.

She added, “She’s a very gentle, easy going dog given she has every right to be angry, upset or shut down. She comes up to you with an open heart and we’ve all made sure she knows she’s well loved.”

OAA says the animal abuse case and investigation is still ongoing.
