OWASSO, Okla. — An Owasso family says a lightning strike is to blame for their house catching fire Friday morning.

A flash and boom woke up Owasso’s Stone Canyon neighborhood around 6:30 a.m.. Then, one home with five people inside caught fire. Smoke poured out of the house and filled the street.

Everyone got out safely and the family told FOX23 they heard a boom and then their power went out. When the parents went to check on their two sons and granddaughter upstairs, they smelled smoke coming from the attic. With no smoke detectors there, no alarms were going off.

The family got out of the home and moved their cars out of the garage so the gas in the tanks didn’t ignite.

Limestone, Owasso and Verdigris firefighters worked for hours on the home.

From the outside, several windows are blown out and you can see fire discoloration to the front of the house.
