Adrean Denteriya Johnson, 39, of Lehigh Acres, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with one count of cruelty toward a child, according to Lee County Sheriff’s Office online booking records.

According to the sheriff’s office, the school resource officer at Harns Marsh Elementary School in Lehigh Acres received information that Johnson was allegedly striking students, WINK-TV reported.

Representatives from the school district went to the school and removed Johnson from the classroom while detectives collected evidence, according to WFTX-TV.

It was unclear what grades the students were in Johnson’s class. According to the faculty listing on the Harns Marsh Elementary School website, Johnson was listed as a teacher, ESE varying exceptionalism.

According to a Facebook post by the sheriff’s office, Johnson allegedly “slapped the victim in their face with her hand and would strike them on the legs, back, and buttocks with a ruler.”

Investigators did not report whether the child suffered any injuries, according to the Miami Herald.

“We do not tolerate this kind of alleged behavior and have released the teacher involved from her probationary contract,” school district spokesperson Rob Spicker said in a statement, according to WINK.

Johnson posted $5,000 bail on Thursday, online records show. She could face more charges, WFTX reported.
