TULSA, Okla. — A North Tulsa man who started a personal training business at the beginning of the pandemic is getting ready to move locations and expand for the fifth time.

Joseph Dufresne took a leap of faith right before the pandemic. He quit his day job and pursued his personal training certification. He launched his business, MYSIDE FITNESS, via zoom and trained clients with items they could find around the house.

“I kind of hit a point where I was working so much at my last job where money didn’t matter because I couldn’t get that time back,” said Dufresne.

Eventually, he moved to training people at a local park, then his garage, before finally landing his own storefront. A slow and steady process, Dufresne said he bought equipment piece by piece as he could afford it. Now, he’s moving into a warehouse about 2-3 times that size.

Dufresne has built up a roster of about 10 or so clients a day and aims keeps his business simple. He is currently his only employee to keep track of and brings in passive income with another instructor who uses his space when he is not.

On top of a successful workload, he told FOX23 his quality of life has skyrocketed. He’s efficient with his time on the job and has more time at home with his family.

Dufresne said networking online and in-person have been some of the major keys to his success. He recommends talking to anyone and everyone as you never know who could become a potential customer.

“I think just networking with people when you’re out, ask people about themselves, dive into their life, sometimes what you do might come up and you know that’s an opportunity to be like I might be able to help you out,” said Dufresne.

The personal trainer moves into his newest space at the beginning of July and plans to be up and running as soon as possible.
